THINGS TO DO
There are lots of things to enjoy in the area, from beaches to castles. Here are a few of our favourites.
GENERAL
Surfing
5 minute drive
We have arranged discounted surfboard/ paddleboard lessons and surf/bodyboard/wetsuit hire from West Wales Surf & Sup Academy on Freshwater West Beach. You can either walk or drive down to your lessons.
Pembroke Castle
15 minute drive
Medieval castle, the birthplace of Henry VII, set on the banks of the river estuary. Guided tours, activities, exhibitions and events
Carew Castle & Tidal Mill
20 minute drive
Rich history spanning 2000 years.
Tenby
35 minute drive
Best known for its 13th century walls and habour. Explore the old castle ruins, museum, art gallery, Tudor Merchants house, shops and 2 beaches.
St Davids
1 hour drive
12th Century cathedral dominates this beautiful town which was a popular pilgrimage destination throughout the middle ages. It is surrounded by spectacular coastline.
Strumble Head
1.25 hour drive
No beach but a nice walk to the Lighthouse and you might see baby seals end August/September possibly October.
Pembrokeshire Island Boat Trips
1 hour drive
Weather permitting daily boats 1st April-30th September from St Martin's Haven to Skomer & Skokholm islands to see puffins (the largest colony in Southern Britain) and Manx Shearwaters (largest concentration in the world) and Grassholme Island which has one of the large Gannet colonies in the world We have arranged discounts on their Sea Safari Trips. BEACHES
Freshwater West
6 minute walk
There is a car park just at bottom of the hill and a bigger car park at the far end of the beach, where there are also loos. There is surfing in summer between flags at far end with Lifeguards present between June and September
Harry Potter fans can visit Dobby’s Grave which is found on one of the sand dunes overlooking the beach
West Angle Bay
10 minute drive
At West Angle Bay there is a car park and the Wavecrest Cafe. Slightly more sheltered than Freshwater West so good for small children. There is a good walk from the beach along the coastal path to the Point House Public House, It is roughly a 50 minute walk. You can leave a car at each end if you don't want to do the return route.
Broadhaven South & The Lily Ponds
20 minute drive
A great beach with good car park with facilities. At the top end you can get access to Bosherston Lily Ponds. The walk around the ponds is mostly gravel paths with two small causeways where you can admire the beautiful display of lilies which are at their best between the end of May and August.
Barafundle Beach
20 minute drive
Owned by the National Trust. There is a short (10min) walk to the beach with steps down. This beautiful beach is sheltered and has trees coming down to one side and dunes behind
Newgale Beach
50 minute drive
This is a very long beach the other side of the estuary. You can pass Broad Haven and Little Haven beaches on the way there or stop off for a look round Dale plus the Griffin pub
